1.
What type of coastal feature is
it?
2. Describe the location of the beach in relation to the headland.
3. Estimate the size of the beach.
4. What are the main materials that formed the beach?
5. Which direction is the beach facing?
6. List out all the favourable factors of the formation of Shek O Beach.
7. What facilities are provided to the beach-goers?
8.
What are the unfavourable
factors to develop Shek O as a major tourist resort in
9. Name the type of rock in the headland.
10.
The rocks along the coast are being
weathered/eroded.
Suggest the erosional agents to the formation of the feature.
11. What weathering processes are being taken place in the area?
12.
Look at the offshore island in
the southern side of the headland.
It is Ng Fan Chau. What
coastal feature(s) can you find on the island? Draw a sketch diagram to show the
coastal features formed there.
13. Describe the materials you can find around this area.
14. Measure the size of the materials in 2 different locations ¡V one is on the southern shore and another is on the northern shore. Is there any difference between the size of the materials?
15. Name the coastal feature formed in the area.
16.
Draw a simple sketch diagram to
show the formation. Add the
movement of the longshore drift running on both sides of the feature.
17. Try to explain its formation.
18. On Tai Tau Chau, you can see a rock which is affected by denudation. Identify the type of weathering process being taken place.
19.
Draw a sketch diagram of the
rock to show the characteristics of this type of weathering process.
20.
What is the coastal feature
formed in the southern part of the headland?
21. Estimate the height of the feature.
22. List out the favourable factors for its formation.
23. At the Tai Tau Chau pavilion, try to look around and see whether you know the names of the surrounding land and sea.

Guidelines to write a field trip report
1. The report should be divided into 4 different sections and labelled as follows:
a. Shek O Beach
b. Shek O Headland
c.
d. Tai Tau Chau
2. Under each heading, you should write down your observations and findings in essay form. Paragraphing should be used when necessary. You are encouraged to draw sketches or simple annotated diagrams to help presentation.
3. The questions given are those important points you must include in your report. You can put your additional ideas in it if you have any.
4. You should describe the observations or findings, followed by sufficient explanations by the best use of your geographical knowledge. Below are examples of how to describe your observations.
a.
Rocks ¡V ¡§The first rock we met was well-jointed and coarse-grained. It was found along the coast. We were familiar with this type of rock
as it is the commonest rock found in
b.
Coastal feature ¡V ¡§We discovered a wonderful scene along the coast. There was a platform-like feature which
was made of numerous layers. It was
like sheets of thick, hard paper.¡¨
c.
Fluvial feature ¡V ¡§In the first day we went to a river valley near Plover Cove
Reservoir. We heard the sound of
running water when we had nearly arrived our
destination. Then, we saw a
vertical column of running water.
In fact, it is a waterfall.¡¨
5. For
the language used, past tense is more appropriate.
6. Below are some of the terms you can use in your report.
a. constructive waves b. destructive waves
c. swash d. backwash
e. high/low tide f. wave refraction
g. longshore drift h. beach drift
i. hydraulic action j. abrasion/corrasion
k. corrosion/solution l. attrition
m. short/long fetch n. offshore
o. foreshore p. backshore
q. wave-cut platform r. cliff
s. sea cave t. geo
u. stack v. sea arch
w. spit x. bar
y. tombolo z. beach
